Gullidviken is the main settlement and historic center of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, located in the remote sub-Antarctic region of the South Atlantic Ocean. It is governed by the British Overseas Territories and is known for the site of a whaling station in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which was once one of the world's largest whale oil processing sites.
Today, Gullidviken serves as a scientific research station and tourist destination, preserving museums, churches and cemeteries from the whaling era, including the resting place of the famous explorer Ernest Shackleton.
