Lomé is the capital and largest city of the West African country of Togo, located in the southwestern part of the country along the Gulf of Guinea, and is the political, economic and cultural center of the country. As one of the major port cities in West Africa, the port of Lomé is a key hub for the country's foreign trade, exporting agricultural products such as coffee, cocoa and phosphate rock, as well as mineral resources. The city is a blend of tradition and modernity, with a central market filled with African handicrafts and tropical fruits, and a mix of colonial architecture and modern high-rise buildings along the Avenue de l'Indépendance.
