Located on the Caribbean coast in the southeastern part of the Dominican Republic, La Romana is the country's third largest city and an important port. As the capital of the province of La Romana, the city has a unique blend of culture and natural beauty, with the sugar industry and tourism as the backbone of its economy.
La Romana is located on the Caribbean coastal plain, about 110 kilometers from the capital Santo Domingo. It has a tropical maritime climate, with an average temperature of 27°C throughout the year and a dry season (December to April) with plenty of sunshine, which is the prime season for tourism.
The city is known for its world-class sugar industry, with the largest sugar mill in the Caribbean. Tourism is highly developed, with iconic attractions such as the man-made island of Coconut Island, the Artist Village of Altos de Chavon, and the luxury resort of Casa Campo, which attracts golf and diving enthusiasts.
La Romana is a fusion of Spanish, African and Taino cultures, with local merengue dances and handicrafts. The city has an excellent infrastructure, an international airport and a deep-water harbor, and a permanent population of around 130,000, known for its warm and welcoming people.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
