Kurtha is a town in Jhapa District in eastern Nepal, located near the Nepal-India border, about 15 kilometers from the provincial capital of Biratnagar. It has a predominantly agricultural economy, producing rice, jute and tea, and is one of the important food-producing regions of Nepal.
Kurta is situated in the Terai plains with a hot and humid climate and retains a strong Madhesi cultural tradition. Most of the local residents are Hindus, with several historic Hindu temples, and the annual festivals such as the Desai Festival attract a large number of tourists.
