Fort Barka, Mauritania: a quiet town on the edge of the Sahara

Fort-Gouraud is a small town in the province of Terrazza in western Mauritania, located in the transition zone between the Sahara Desert and the North Atlantic Ocean, about 400 kilometers from the capital Nouakchott. Once a French colonial military stronghold, it retains some of its historical architectural monuments, and today its main economic activity is agro-pastoralism, with gum arabic, date palms and livestock in the vicinity. As a transportation node to the southern region of Mauritania, Fort Barka is a blend of desert nomadic culture and coastal trading traditions, with an arid climate, little rainfall and a significant temperature difference between day and night, making it one of the windows to the Mauritanian interior.

Overview of Sao Tome and Principe (note on "Java")

São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
