Located in the Shan plateau in the eastern part of the country, Gaolin is one of the border towns connecting Myanmar and China's Yunnan Province. It is situated on the banks of the upper tributary of the Salween River, with an average elevation of about 1,000 meters, and has a mild and pleasant climate. The area is mainly agricultural, producing tea, coffee and all kinds of tropical fruits, and the terraced fields of the local tea plantations form a unique idyllic scenery. The residents of Gaolin are mostly Shan, Kokang and other ethnic minorities, retaining the traditional bamboo building construction and festive customs, such as the annual Song and Dance Celebration held during the Water Festival, full of rich ethnic flavor. In recent years, with the development of China-Myanmar border trade, Gaolin has gradually become a regional logistics hub, but its pristine natural landscape and simple folk customs are still well preserved, and it is a peaceful place to experience rural life in Myanmar.
Ruby is a small incorporated town in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States, located about 60 miles northeast of the state capital of Baton Rouge and adjacent to the Mississippi border, and characterized by a quiet rural atmosphere and a deep community culture. Sparsely populated, with fewer than 500 people according to the most recent census, the town dates back to the late 1800s and, with its early rise to an agricultural economy (e.g., cotton and soybean farming), still retains the rustic look of a traditional Southern town. The town's landmarks include a century-old community church and several Victorian-style homes, and the annual fall "Ruby Family Day," which blends elements of local Cajun and Creole culture, has become a shared memory for the surrounding residents. Despite its small size, Ruby epitomizes the serenity of the American countryside with its simple folk and distinctive Louisiana southern flavor.
