Jiande City is located in the western part of Zhejiang Province, China, under the jurisdiction of Hangzhou City, upstream of the Qiantang River, in the hilly and mountainous region of western Zhejiang. It has a total area of 2,321 square kilometers and a population of about 440,000 people. Jiande is known as the "city of mountains and water", with the water systems of Xin'an River, Fuchun River and Lanjiang River, and has a humid climate and excellent ecological environment, which is a national key ecological functional area.
The economy is dominated by industry, tourism and agriculture, with a focus on the development of new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing and other industries. Famous attractions include Xin'an River Hydropower Station, Lingqi Cave, Daci Yan Suspended Temple and Meicheng Ancient Town, of which Xin'an River is famous for its "clear water, cool wind and strange fog", with an average water temperature of 17℃ or less in the summer, which creates the unique spectacle of river fog.
Jiande has convenient transportation, with the Hangzhou-Huangzhou High Speed Railway and Hangzhou-Xinjing Expressway running through the whole territory, and is about 1.5 hours' drive from Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport. The local specialties include white lotus in Liye, Yanzhou shortcake, and Wugapi wine, etc. The local folk culture retains the traditional characteristics of Yanzhou Prefecture, which was awarded "China's first livable city in terms of climate" in 2018, and is an important eco-tourism destination in the Yangtze River Delta region.
