São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Located in the southeastern part of China's Fujian Province, Zhangzhou is an important city in the Golden Triangle of southern Fujian, bordering the Taiwan Strait to the east and Xiamen and Quanzhou. As a national historical and cultural city, Zhangzhou has a history of more than 1,300 years of founding, and is known for its profound Minnan, Hakka and marine cultures. The city's economy is dominated by agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing and tourism, and it is known as the "Hometown of Flowers and Fruits" for its abundance of daffodils, lychees, rutabagas and other specialties.
Zhangzhou is home to the world cultural heritage of Fujian Tulou (Nanjing and Hua'an sections), as well as well-known attractions such as Dongshan Island and Yunshui Rhythm Ancient Town. Traditional cultures such as the Minnan language, Gezai Opera and puppet shows are passed down and thrive here. Local delicacies such as lo mein, oyster omelette and roast pork dumplings are popular among tourists. In recent years, Zhangzhou has been actively developing new energy and modern service industries, resulting in sustained economic growth while maintaining a livable ecological environment.
