São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Xuejia District is located in the northwestern part of Tainan City, Taiwan Province of China, and is one of the core towns in Tainan's Xibei District. With an area of about 53.99 square kilometers and a population of about 26,000, the area is bordered by the Taiwan Strait to the west and boasts a beautiful wetland ecological landscape.
Xuejia is famous for the "Ciji Palace" and the "Ancestor Visit Ceremony on Shangbai Reef", and the annual folklore event of mowing incense has been listed as an important folk cultural heritage. The area retains a large number of traditional southern Fujian buildings, and is also an important production area for Taiwan's lice breeding, known as the "hometown of lice".
The Xuejia Wetland is located in the watershed of the Rapid River and covers an area of about 184 hectares. It is an important habitat for migratory birds, with rare species such as the black-faced spoonbill recorded. The economy is mainly based on agriculture, with specialties such as watermelons, melons, and garlic, and the ecotourism industry has been actively developed in recent years.
