São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Wuqiu, formally known as Wuqiu Island, is located in the southern part of the Taiwan Strait, belonging to Kinmen County, Taiwan Province of China, and consists of the islands Daqiu and Xiaoqiu, about 70 kilometers from Putian City, Fujian Province. The island has a flat terrain, mild climate, rich marine ecological resources, and the surrounding waters are popular for diving and fishing. Built in 1874, Wuqiu Lighthouse is an important navigation landmark in the Taiwan Strait, witnessing a century of maritime transportation history. The local residents are mainly fishermen, and retain the traditional cultural characteristics of Fujian and Taiwan, such as the belief in Mazu and the exchange of Minnan language. As one of Taiwan's outlying islands, Wuqiu combines natural beauty with humanistic heritage, making it a unique window to explore the culture of the Taiwan Strait.
