São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
West Point is an island located in the northwestern part of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean, about 3 kilometers from the main island of West Falkland, with a total area of about 1.5 square kilometers. The island is renowned for its unique wildlife and natural beauty and is one of the key ecotourism destinations in the Falkland Islands.
West Point Island is rich in birdlife, including breeding populations of black-browed albatross, rockhopper penguin and Magellanic penguin. There is a wildlife sanctuary on the island, and the vegetation is dominated by tundra and grasslands, with a coastline dotted with reefs and seared landforms. Every summer (November to March) is the best season to observe seabirds and marine mammals.
There is only one settlement on the island, the West Point Settlement, which is dominated by traditional sheep ranching. the West Point Island Ranch, established in the late 19th century, is still in operation today. Visitors can arrive by small plane or boat to experience bird watching, hiking and ranching culture. The island's albatross colony and penguin rookeries are classified as Key Bird Areas by BirdLife International.
