São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Saulkrasti is a small town in Latvia, located in the southeastern part of the country, near the border with Belarus. It belongs to Latvia's Latgale region and is known for its peaceful nature and rural scenery. The town is sparsely populated and surrounded by forests and lakes, making it suitable for outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing.
The history of Sauerkrasti dates back to the Middle Ages and was once part of a trade route. Today, it is characterized by traditional Latvian culture, preserving old buildings and local customs. The economy is largely dependent on agriculture and small-scale forestry, making it an ideal destination for experiencing life in rural Latvia.
Transportation-wise, Saulkrasti is connected by road to major cities such as Taugevpils and Rezekne. Visitors can enjoy a slower pace of life, explore nearby nature reserves and historical sites, and get a taste of Latvia's borders.
