São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Ruteng is the capital of Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia, located in the highland area of western Flores Island. With an altitude of about 1,200 meters above sea level, the city enjoys a cool and pleasant climate and is known for its unique natural beauty and traditional culture. Surrounded by rolling hills and terraced fields, Rutten is an ideal destination for hiking and eco-tourism.
Rutten is known for the traditional villages of the Mangalera people, where the unique spider-web shaped layout of villages (Lingko) and traditional ceremonies are preserved. Major attractions include the Rutten traditional market, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, and the nearby caves and waterfalls. The city is also an important stopover on the way to the Quemado National Park and other natural wonders of Flores.
Rutten's economy is based on agriculture, with coffee, cloves and vegetables being the main crops. The airport of Sactac is connected to other cities on the island and the road network provides access to all parts of Flores. As a remote center, Rutten has a relatively basic infrastructure but offers a unique travel experience.
