São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Ronsecco is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Vercelli in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 50 kilometers northeast of Turin. Situated in the Po River plain, this quiet town has a predominantly agricultural economy and is surrounded by extensive rice and corn fields, reflecting the typical rural landscape of the Po River valley.
Roncesco covers an area of approximately 10.6 square kilometers, has an elevation of approximately 140 meters above sea level, and a population of approximately 550 (2023 estimate). The town retains the low-density residential structure of the traditional Italian countryside, with a low population density and a soothing pace of life. The local climate is continental, with cold, foggy winters and hot, humid summers.
The history of Roncesco dates back to the Middle Ages, and the Chiesa di San Lorenzo in the center of town, built in the 18th century, is a local landmark in the Baroque style. Each summer a village festival is held where residents showcase traditional Piedmontese cuisine such as risotto and local wines. The town is only a 30-minute drive from the historic city of Vercelli, which serves as a peaceful base for exploring Piedmont's cultural heritage.
The economy is based on rice cultivation and animal husbandry, and the surrounding farmland is under the protection of the "Piedmont Rice Region". Transportation is provided by the provincial road SP31, which connects the neighboring towns, and the nearest high-speed rail station is in Vercelli, providing fast access to Turin and Milan. The unspoiled countryside of Roncesco attracts travelers looking for an in-depth experience of Italian rural life.
