São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
New Orleans is the largest port city in the U.S. state of Louisiana, situated on the Gulf of Mexico and known as the "Crescent City". This unique fusion of French, Spanish, African and Creole cultures is the birthplace of jazz, live music on Bourbon Street and the colorful architecture of the French Quarter. Mardi Gras, held every February, is one of the world's biggest street festivals, attracting millions of visitors with its colorful floats, masks and carnival atmosphere. A culinary paradise, New Orleans is known for its gumbo, beignets and Creole stews, blending the sophistication of French cooking with the richness of the South. Despite being devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the city was quickly reborn through resilience and remains one of the most culturally vibrant destinations in the United States.
