São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Minqin County, belonging to Wuwei City in Gansu Province, is located in the lower reaches of the Shiyang River Basin, at the confluence of the Tengger Desert and the Badanjilin Desert, and is a typical desert oasis county in northwest China. Because of its location at the end of the Shiyang River, Minqin has been known as the "Sand Sea Oasis" since ancient times, and it is an important ecological barrier to prevent the two deserts from merging. The local climate is arid with little rain, plenty of light, and a big temperature difference between day and night, which has bred Minqin honeydew melon, mutton and other specialty agricultural products, of which Minqin honeydew melon is famous for its high sugar content and good taste in the country. In recent years, Minqin has focused on the development of ecotourism in the sand industry, and attractions such as the Green Earth Lake and the Sand Botanical Garden have demonstrated the effectiveness of desert management and become important destinations for experiencing desert ecology and the culture of the Silk Road.
