São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Located in the province of Muhe, in the mainland region of Equatorial Guinea, Mungomein is situated near the equator and has a tropical rainforest climate with high temperatures and rainfall throughout the year and a high percentage of vegetation cover. This small town is based on agriculture as the mainstay of the economy, with the local population mostly engaged in the cultivation of tropical crops such as cocoa and coffee, and in recent years has gradually developed a small agro-processing industry. As a non-major city in Equatorial Guinea, Mungomein retains its pristine natural landscape, with Spanish as the official language and a mix of traditional customs and Spanish colonial culture. The city is small, with relatively simple infrastructure, but the surrounding rainforest ecosystem is intact, making it one of the windows to explore the natural ecology of the Equatorial region.
