São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Matherville (Mattoon) is a city in Kerr County, Illinois, United States, located in the east-central region of the state, about 70 miles east of the state capital, Springfield. The city covers an area of about 24 square kilometers and has a population of about 18,000 (2020 data), making it a commercial and transportation hub for the region.
Founded in 1855, Matherville sprang up as a result of railroad development and remains an important railroad interchange. The economy is dominated by manufacturing, health services and retail, with a large train repair facility and several medical centers. The community's cultural vitality is underscored by the annual Bagelfest festival, which attracts a large number of visitors.
The city is located in a flat, agricultural area known for corn and soybean farming. Education is provided by institutions such as Lake Land College, which offers vocational training and higher education. Conveniently located near Interstate I-57, the city has easy access to major cities such as Chicago and St. Louis.
