São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Mahmudia is a town in southern Romania, located in the County of Giurgiu, near the Danube River border with Bulgaria. The town has a long history, dating back to Roman times, and was once an important military and trading stronghold. Mahmudia's name derives from Sultan Mahmud I during the Ottoman Empire, reflecting its multicultural background.
Mahmudiya is located on the Danube River Plain, where agriculture and fishing have traditionally been the backbone of the local economy, producing wheat, corn and grapes. In recent years, logistics and light industry have gradually developed based on the advantages of the Danube navigation. The town retains a 19th-century Orthodox church, Ottoman-style buildings and a nature reserve along the Danube, which attracts a small number of eco-tourists.
The population is predominantly Romanian, preserving traditional folk festivals and crafts. Transportation Mahmudia, which is connected to the capital Bucharest (about 120 km) and the city of Giurgiu via the national highway, is a small, quiet town with a slow pace of life, characterized by riverside scenery and historical monuments.
