São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Laixi is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, People's Republic of China, and is administered by the city of Qingdao. Located in the middle of Shandong Peninsula, Laixi City is bordered by Laiyang City in the east, Pingdu City in the west, Jimo District in the south and Zhaoyuan City in the north, with a total area of 1,568 square kilometers. As an important part of Qingdao's "half-hour economic circle", Laixi is known as "the hometown of Chinese fruits" and "the national model county of leisure agriculture and rural tourism".
Laixi is rich in agricultural resources, producing apples, grapes, peanuts and other agricultural products, and has a national agricultural science and technology park. Industry has formed food processing, machinery manufacturing, new energy and other industrial clusters, is the world famous graphite deep processing base. There are ecotourism resources such as the Laixi Lake (Yanzhi Reservoir) National Water Conservancy Scenic Area and Jiangshan Wetland in the city, which receives more than one million tourists annually.
The history of Laixi can be traced back to the Neolithic Age, and it is one of the important birthplaces of Qilu culture. The modern transportation network is well developed, with the Laixi Station of Qingrong Intercity Railway, Longqing Expressway and Shenhai Expressway running through the whole city, and Qingdao Liuting International Airport is only 60 kilometers away, forming a three-dimensional transportation system. 2020 resident population is about 720,000 people, and Laixi has been awarded the honorary titles of National Civilized City and National Sanitary City.
