São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Located in the northern part of the island of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia in the Western Pacific Ocean, Kolonia is the state's political, economic, and cultural center and one of the Federation's major transportation hubs. The seaside city enjoys a tropical maritime climate, warm and humid all year round, and is surrounded by coral reefs and turquoise waters, making it a place of natural beauty. Historically, Colonia has been colonized by Germany, Japan and the United States, leaving behind architectural monuments in a mixture of styles, such as Japanese-era watchtowers and German colonial churches, which tell a unique story of colonial history. The city is small but vibrant, and its inhabitants have preserved the traditional Micronesian culture, with seafaring skills and handicrafts passed down to this day. As the gateway to the natural wonders of Pohnpei's interior, such as Mount Namaaduwad, Kolonia combines history and tropical flavor, making it a must-visit destination for exploring the culture of eastern Micronesia.
