São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Khongsam District is a district of Chiang Mai Province in northern Thailand, located about 30 kilometers east of Chiang Mai city center. The district is known for its serene natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, making it an ideal destination to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The terrain of Khongsam district is predominantly mountainous and forested, with several streams and waterfalls, such as the famous Mae Taeng Waterfalls, which attracts trekkers and nature tourists.
Khong Sam District is rich in history, with many ancient temples and Buddhist relics in the area, such as Wat Tham Pha Plong, a temple built in a cave that offers meditation and spiritual experiences. The area also retains a traditional Lanna culture, with villagers mostly making a living from agriculture, growing rice, fruits and flowers. Visitors can participate in rural life experiences and learn about handicraft making and local cuisine.
Tourism is an important economic pillar in Khongsam Prefecture, where visitors can enjoy activities such as eco-tourism, hot springs and agritourism. The infrastructure of the county is relatively simple, with homestays and local restaurants emphasizing the simple rural charm. Khlongsan is easily accessible via Chiang Mai airport or by road, and is suitable for travelers seeking a slower pace and more in-depth travel.
