São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Hornbeck is a small unincorporated community located in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, United States. Nestled in the west-central part of the state near the Sabine River, the town is known for its peaceful rural setting and rich natural beauty. With a population of about 500 or so, the community has a close-knit atmosphere, with agriculture and forestry as the mainstay of the economy.
Hornbeck's history dates back to the late 1800's and originally sprang up as a result of railroad development. The area retains a strong southern cultural tradition, including country music and outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Nearby amenities such as Hornbeck Elementary School provide essential services to residents. Transportation is convenient and easily accessible via U.S. Highway 171. Overall, this is a great town for those seeking a slower pace of life.
