São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Located in central California, Fresno is the core city of the San Joaquin Valley region and the county seat of Fresno County. As the fifth largest city in California, it has a population of about 500,000 and is known for its agriculture and multiculturalism.
Fresno is located in California's Central Valley, about three hours from both San Francisco and Los Angeles. The city has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, with an average of more than 300 days of sunshine per year, making it ideal for agriculture.
Known as the "Raisin Capital of the World," Fresno is an important distribution center for U.S. agricultural products, producing grapes, almonds, cotton and other crops. The gateway location to Yosemite National Park also promotes tourism.
The city is home to cultural institutions such as Fresno State University and the Fresno Art Museum, and hosts annual special events such as the Fresno Fair. The culture of the Chicano community has a profound influence on local food and festivals.
Fresno is connected to major California cities via Highway 99 and Highway 41, and domestic flights are available from Fresno Yosemite International Airport. In recent years the city has been promoting a downtown revitalization program to improve infrastructure.
