São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Fengshun County is under the jurisdiction of Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, China. It is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province, on the middle and upper reaches of the Han River, bordering Fujian Province. With a total area of 2,710 square kilometers and a population of about 700,000, it is dominated by the Hakka people and is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese and old revolutionary area.
Fengshun is rich in geothermal resources and has the reputation of "China's Hot Spring City", with hot springs all over the territory, high water temperature and excellent water quality. The county's forest coverage exceeds 70%, and there are natural landscapes such as Longguizhai Waterfall and Baxiangshan Grand Canyon, which make the ecological environment superior.
As a major town of Hakka culture, Fengshun preserves intangible cultural heritages such as the Dragon House and Hakka mountain songs. The main industries include electro-acoustic appliances, hot springs tourism, and agricultural products processing, etc. The electro-acoustic industry occupies one-third of the national market share and is known as the "Electro-acoustic Capital of China".
Fengshun has convenient transportation, with Shantou-Meizhou Expressway and Meishan-Shantou High-speed Railway running through the whole city. Local specialties include elemi, ginger candy, sweet potato vermicelli, etc. Every year in the twelfth month of the lunar calendar, the grand "Puzhai Fire Dragon" folklore event is held, which is listed in the national intangible cultural heritage.
