São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Located in the eastern part of Sichuan Province of China, Dazhu County is part of Dazhou City and is situated in the combined area of Sichuan and Chongqing, which is the pivotal area for the eastward opening of Sichuan. With a total area of 2,075 square kilometers and a population of about 1 million, it is predominantly Han Chinese, and its dialect is Southwest Mandarin.
Dazhu has a subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons and an average annual temperature of 16.5℃. It has Wufeng Mountain National Forest Park and Baidao Lake Provincial Wetland Park, with a forest coverage rate of over 40%. It is rich in mineral resources, with natural gas reserves of 600 billion cubic meters, making it an important natural gas production base in China.
Agriculture is famous for ramie (the hometown of ramie in China), glutinous rice, and toon cultivation; industry is dominated by energy, building materials, and electromechanics. The specialties of Dazhu mash and Donghan mash are protected by national geographical indications. The local culture is characterized by the integration of the characteristics of Ba Shu, Sichuan Opera, bamboo weaving craft and "bamboo doll" folklore.
The Baomao Expressway and South Daliang Expressway run through the whole area, and it is 60 kilometers away from Dazhou Airport. The main attractions include Jintu Temple, Yunwu Gorge, Three Kingdoms Ancient Road, etc. It receives more than 2 million tourists annually, and its GDP will reach 42 billion yuan in 2022, ranking at the forefront of the county economy in northeast Sichuan.
