São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Corvallis, located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, USA, is an important cultural and educational center in the state. With a population of approximately 60,000, the city blends academic innovation with natural ecology, with Oregon State University at its center. Corvallis has a mild climate with four distinct seasons and is surrounded by forests, rivers and farmland, offering a wealth of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and biking.
The economy is dominated by education, high technology and agriculture, and companies such as Hewlett-Packard have research and development centers here. The city is well-policed and has a friendly community atmosphere, and has been repeatedly recognized as one of the nation's most livable cities. Culturally, it has several museums, art festivals and local farm markets that reflect a sustainable lifestyle.
Conveniently located about 90 minutes from Portland, it is an ideal base for exploring the Oregon Coast and Cascade Mountains.
