São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Carroll is the county seat of Carroll County, Iowa, United States, located in the west-central part of the state, about 130 kilometers northwest of Des Moines. The city covers an area of about 16.5 km2 and has a population of about 10,000 (2020 data), making it the center of a typical Midwestern American agricultural community. The economy is based on agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare, with well-developed corn and soybean farming, as well as food processing and machinery manufacturing industries. The local education system is well-developed, including K-12 public and private schools, and healthcare facilities are centered around St. Anthony's Hospital. The city hosts annual Carroll County Fair and other traditional events, and retains a strong community culture and historic buildings such as the Carroll Historical Museum. Conveniently located at the intersection of US-30 and IA-141, the city is approximately 1.5 hours from Des Moines International Airport.
