São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Dominica is an island nation located in the Windward Islands of the Caribbean Sea, known as the Commonwealth of Dominica, not "Dominica Calibrated" - the latter may be a misspelling or a specific technical term. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Caribbean Sea to the west, the country has a land area of 751 square kilometers and its capital is Roseau. As a volcanic island, Dominica is known as the "Nature Island of the Caribbean" for its dense rainforests, volcanic landscapes and natural hot springs.
Dominica has a natural environment that has not been over-exploited and the Three Peaks National Park is a World Heritage Site. Visitors can experience the wonders of Trafalgar Falls and Boiling Lake, or participate in eco-tourism such as hiking and whale watching. The economy is based on agriculture, with bananas and coconuts as important exports, and low-carbon tourism and civic investment programs are being developed.
The population of approximately 72,000 is predominantly Afro-descendant, with English as the official language and Creole widely spoken. The culture is a mix of African, European and Caribbean elements, with Independence Day (November 3) and Carnival showcasing traditional music, dance and costumes. The country is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, is politically stable and is known for its environmental policies, with the goal of becoming the world's first climate-resilient country.
