São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Located in Montgomery County, Maryland, USA, and adjacent to the capital city of Washington, D.C., Bethesda is a major business, research and medical center in the state. Home to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Naval Medical Center, the city is known globally for life sciences research and medical innovation. Bethesda has a highly developed economic environment with a concentration of biotech companies, government agencies and high-end service industries.
The city is conveniently located with direct access via the Washington Metro Red Line and is surrounded by a wealth of cultural amenities, quality school districts and upscale residential neighborhoods. Its safe living environment, high-quality residents and comprehensive community facilities have made Bethesda one of the most livable areas in the U.S. for many consecutive years. With its tree-lined streets and historic landmarks, Bethesda is a perfect blend of modern urban development and natural beauty.
