São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Ambatoafo, located in the Atsinanana region of northeastern Madagascar, is a small coastal town bordering the Indian Ocean. Located in a tropical rainforest climate zone, it is humid and rainy all year round, and is surrounded by dense vegetation with remarkable biodiversity.
The local economy is based on fishing and agriculture, with the inhabitants engaged in traditional fishing and the cultivation of cash crops such as vanilla and cloves. The town retains its native Malagasy culture, with wooden fishing boats and colorful houses forming a unique seaside landscape.
Ambatoafo is close to part of the Masoala National Park, where endemic species such as lemurs and chameleons can be observed. The town is connected to port cities such as Toamasina by the RN5 highway. Infrastructure is relatively simple and visitors should be aware of road conditions during the rainy season.
