São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
Apääjärvi is a municipality in the Finnish district of Kainu, located in the eastern part of the country, about 100 kilometers from the city of Kuopio. The city is known for its rich nature, surrounded by dense forests and numerous lakes, making it an ideal destination for outdoor activities.
Located in the Finnish Lake District, Apäälvi has a typical Nordic nature. Known for its pure air, tranquil lakes and vast forests, the region has four distinct seasons: summer for hiking, boating and fishing, and winter as a popular spot for skiing and snowmobiling.
The local economy is based on forestry, agriculture and tourism. Apääjärvi retains a traditional Finnish rural culture and hosts various seasonal festivals each year, such as summer solstice celebrations and winter markets. The population is around 2,500 and the community has a friendly and peaceful atmosphere.
Visitors can explore the hiking trails of Koli National Park, experience ice fishing or stay in a lakeside cabin. Accessible by road or the neighboring Kayani Airport, it is a hidden gem for travelers seeking nature and tranquility.
