Jacobabad is a city in the Sindh province of Pakistan, located in the southeast of the country, near the Sindh-Balochistan border and about 50 kilometers from the Indian border. Named after the 19th-century British general John Jacob, the city is one of Sindh's major agricultural and trading centers, with major crops including cotton, wheat, and sugarcane, and a local agricultural economy that supports the livelihoods of several surrounding villages. Jacob Abad has a population of about 500,000, speaks mainly Urdu and Sindhi, and has a tropical desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. As a transportation hub, it connects major cities such as Karachi and Lahore and plays an important role in regional trade.
