Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, located in the northwestern part of Xinjiang, is known as the "South of the River Beyond the Seas". Here, the Tianshan Mountains stretch across the river valley, the Ili River as a green ribbon nourishing the land, giving birth to one of the world's three major lavender producing areas of Huocheng lavender fields, the purple sea in the summer surging, romantic and intoxicating. Grassland is the soul of Yili, Nalati's "air grassland" meadows such as a carpet, Kerala Jun's "three-dimensional grassland" layered, green in the summer, golden in the fall like a picture, the pastoral song. Many ethnic groups live here, and the Kazakh felt houses, Uyghur songs and dances, and Xibo archery cultures are intermingled and symbiotic, with unique flavors of hand-meat, roasted buns, and horse-milk wine. With snowy mountains, forests, grasslands, lakes and wetlands, Yili is a perfect place to experience the natural and humanistic beauty of Xinjiang in all seasons.
