Located in the central part of Yunlin County, Taiwan Province of China, Huwei is one of the important administrative, economic and cultural centers of the county. Geographically, it is in the northern part of the Chia Nan Plain, with a subtropical monsoon climate and mild seasons. The population of about 70,000 is dominated by residents of Minnan descent, with Minnan as the common language.
Huwei is famous for its history in the sugar industry, and was once the main town of Taiwan's sugar industry during the Japanese rule; the Huwei Sugar Factory is still in operation today.
