Hua Yuan County is located in the western part of Hunan Province, China, under Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, at the junction of Hunan, Guizhou and Chongqing provinces, with a total area of about 1,109 square kilometers. The county is characterized by minority cultures, with the Tujia and Miao ethnic groups accounting for more than 80% of the total population, preserving rich ethnic traditions, festivals and handicrafts.
Huayuan County is blessed with unique karst landscapes and natural landscapes, including the famous Border Town of Chadong (the prototype site of Shen Congwen's Border Town), the Grand Canyon of the ancient Miao River and Zixia Lake. It has an excellent ecological environment and rich mineral resources, especially manganese ore reserves, known as the "Oriental Manganese Capital".
The economy is mainly based on agriculture, mining and tourism, with specialty agricultural products such as oil tea and Chinese herbs. Huayuan is an important carrier of ethnic culture in western Hunan, with Miao drums, songs and embroidery listed as intangible cultural heritages, and traditional festivals such as "April 8" held every year.
Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
