Houma is located in the southwestern part of Shanxi Province, China, under Linfen City, in the Fen River Basin at the junction of Jin, Shaanxi and Henan provinces. As an important transportation hub and logistics center in southern Jin, Houma is famous for the ancient Jin "Xintian" site, and is a national historical and cultural city. There are important archaeological discoveries such as the ruins of the palace of the State of Jin during the Spring and Autumn Period and the ruins of the copper casting workshop, which are known as the "birthplace of Jin culture".
Modern Houma is an important trade distribution center and light industry base in Shanxi Province, with a perfect railroad and highway transportation network.
