Hopewell is an independent city in the U.S. state of Virginia, located on the banks of the James River, adjacent to Richmond and Petersburg. The city covers an area of about 28 square kilometers with a population of about 22,000 and is known for its industrial manufacturing and historical heritage.
Hopewell has its origins in the 17th century, but modern development began with the chemical boom of the early 20th century.
