Tianjin Hongqiao District is located in the northwestern part of the central city, named after "Dahongqiao" in the Qing Dynasty. It is the place where the Haihe River, the South Canal and the North Canal meet, and has been the main transportation hub of Tianjin since ancient times, as well as the place of commerce and distribution. The Sanqiaohekou Historical and Cultural District has witnessed the change of Tianjin from a canal terminal to a modernized city; the Lu Zutang Boxer Rebellion Memorial Hall, as a national key cultural relics protection unit, carries the memories of the modern anti-invasion struggle. Nowadays, Hongqiao District not only retains the canal flavor of the "Northern Water Town", but also features traditional commerce and cultural and creative industries, making it an important cultural node and livable urban area at the "West Gate" of Tianjin.
