Gushi County is located in the southeast of Henan Province, belonging to Xinyang City, at the junction of Henan and Anhui Provinces, and is an important gateway of Henan facing East China. As a place where the Central Plains and Chu cultures meet, it has a history of more than 1,800 years and is known as "the first hometown of expatriates in the Central Plains". The county has a total area of 2,946 square kilometers, with a population of about 1.7 million people. It has a subtropical to warm-temperate transition climate, and produces rice, wheat and other crops, and is an advanced county for grain production in China.
Gushi is the hometown of the Tang people - the ancestral land of Fujian and Taiwan, the starting point of four large-scale migrants southward in history, known as "the most desirable roots of the global Chinese holy land". There are national cultural relics protection units such as the ruins of the old city of Fanguo and the ancestral shrine of Chen Yuguang. West Jiuhua Mountain Scenic Area is a national 4A-level tourist attraction with ten thousand acres of tea gardens, bamboo sea and Zen cultural landscape, and receives more than one million tourists annually. The Roots Cultural Festival is listed as a key cultural festival in Henan Province.
Gushi has now become a regional center city in the southeast of Henan Province, forming three leading industries: willow weaving, grain and oil processing, and equipment manufacturing. Gushi chicken, Gushi goose and Gushi duck are listed as national geographical indication products, and "Gushi willow weaving" is selected as national intangible cultural heritage. Ningxi Railway, Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway passes through the city, and it takes 1 hour to reach Xinyang Minggang Airport. The transportation network radiates to the three provinces of Henan, Hubei and Anhui, and it is building a regional center city at the junction of Henan and Anhui.
Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
