Guelta Zemmur, Western Sahara: a controversial town on the edge of the Sahara Desert

Located in the northern part of Western Sahara, close to the Moroccan border and on the western edge of the Sahara Desert, Guelta Zemmur is a controversial town characterized by its oasis and traditional nomadic culture. With its arid climate and large temperature differences between day and night, the area was historically an important transit point for caravans crossing the Sahara, and today still retains some of its ancient adobe buildings and petroglyphic remains. The population, numbering in the thousands, is largely dependent on nomadic pastoralism (camels, goats) and small-scale agriculture (dates, grains), and water resources are dependent on "guelta" (seasonal puddles) formed by underground aquifers. As part of the disputed sovereignty over Western Sahara, the area is under the de facto jurisdiction of Morocco, but the Frente Polisario also claims sovereignty over it, making it a fringe area of geopolitical interest. Despite its limited resources, the unique desert landscape and cultural heritage of Guelta al-Zamur attracts a small number of adventure tourists.

Overview of Sao Tome and Principe (note on "Java")

São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
