Rimi is a small village or settlement in Humla District of Karnali Zone, a development region in west-central Nepal, not an independent state. It is located in a remote part of the Himalayas, near the border between Nepal and Tibet, China, and has a high altitude, predominantly mountainous terrain and a cold, dry climate. Rimi is sparsely populated, and most of its inhabitants are Tibetans or Tibetan-Burmese-speaking ethnic groups, who make a living from agriculture and animal husbandry, growing barley, potatoes and other crops.
The region is known for its pristine natural beauty and trekking routes, and is a starting point for exploring the surrounding alpine landscapes, but infrastructure is relatively rudimentary and transportation relies on foot or livestock. Rimi retains a traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture, with local temples and festivals attracting a small number of adventure travelers. Overall, Rimi is a peaceful and isolated community in Nepal, displaying a rural Himalayan lifestyle.
