Gourbeyre is a seaside municipality in the southwestern part of the French overseas department of Guadeloupe, south of the island of Basseterre in the Caribbean Lesser Antilles. It is known for its spectacular volcanic landscape and rich nature, and its proximity to the active volcano La Grande Soufrière makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the volcanic geology of Guadeloupe. The town retains historic buildings from the colonial period, such as the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, which blends Creole and French cultural features. Goubert also boasts black sand beaches, waterfalls and rainforest hiking trails that appeal to nature and history lovers. As a French Overseas Territory, French and Creole are spoken, the Euro is the currency of the day, and it combines a French administrative system with the tropics of the Caribbean.
