Gevgelija is an important city in the southeastern part of the Republic of North Macedonia, located in the center of the municipality of Gevgelija, next to the Greek border. Its location is of strategic importance as a transportation hub connecting the north and south of the Balkan Peninsula. The city covers an area of about 317 square kilometers and has a population of about 15,000, predominantly Macedonian.
Gevgelija has a long history, with remnants of the Roman period remaining in the neighborhood. The city's economy is based on agriculture and border trade, and it produces grapes, tobacco and other crops. In recent years, it has developed a logistics industry based on the advantages of the border, and has gradually developed hot springs and tourism resources, and is famous for its geothermal resources.
The city is a blend of Ottoman and Balkan cultures, retaining traditional architectural styles. It is surrounded by beautiful nature and is close to the Prespa Lakes National Park, which attracts tourists with its bird habitats and ecological hiking trails. Folklore festivals are held every summer to showcase the local culture.
Ruby is a small incorporated town in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States, located about 60 miles northeast of the state capital of Baton Rouge and adjacent to the Mississippi border, and characterized by a quiet rural atmosphere and a deep community culture. Sparsely populated, with fewer than 500 people according to the most recent census, the town dates back to the late 1800s and, with its early rise to an agricultural economy (e.g., cotton and soybean farming), still retains the rustic look of a traditional Southern town. The town's landmarks include a century-old community church and several Victorian-style homes, and the annual fall "Ruby Family Day," which blends elements of local Cajun and Creole culture, has become a shared memory for the surrounding residents. Despite its small size, Ruby epitomizes the serenity of the American countryside with its simple folk and distinctive Louisiana southern flavor.
