Gamboa is a small town in central Panama, located near the Gamboa Locks of the Panama Canal, on the border between Panama Province and the Kuna Yala Special Zone, known as the "Gateway to the Rainforest". It was an important logistical base during the construction of the Panama Canal and still retains some of its American colonial architecture. Surrounded by the Sobelania National Park, the town is covered in dense rainforest and rich in biodiversity, making it a popular starting point for birdwatching, wildlife observation and eco-adventures. Visitors can take a boat trip on the Chagres River, explore the canal lock operations or experience the suspension bridge trail deep into the rainforest. Gamboa's blend of canal history and natural wonders makes it an ideal destination to experience Panama's ecological and human charms.
