Elbasan

Elbasan is the capital of the central Albanian state of Elbasan, located on the banks of the Shkumbin River, and is one of the country's most important historical and economic centers. The city has its origins in the Illyrian settlement of the 4th century B.C., which later developed into a Roman military fortress, and the surviving Elbasan Castle is still an important relic of the Ottoman period, a testimony to multiculturalism. As a traditional agricultural region, the area is characterized by grape growing and animal husbandry, but in recent years, it has gradually developed light industry and tourism. Elbasan is also known for its unique folklore and culture, with the annual summer "Carnival", a fusion of traditional Albanian music and dance, attracting tourists. It is an ancient and vibrant city, which has retained its Balkan heritage, but is also modern and dynamic.
