Located in the central part of Gansu Province in China, Dingxi is the core city of the Longzhong region and is situated in the transition zone between the Loess Plateau and the Tibetan Plateau at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level. As a town on the ancient Silk Road, Dingxi is famous for its arid agriculture, and is known as the "Potato Capital of China" and the "Hometown of Chinese Medicinal Materials", with abundant production of potato, Codonopsis, Astragalus and other crops. The city has 1 district and 6 counties under its jurisdiction, with a total area of about 20,000 square kilometers and a population of about 2.8 million. The transportation is convenient, with Lianhuo Expressway, Lanhai Expressway and Baolan High-speed Railway running through the whole territory, connecting Lanzhou and Xi'an. Dingxi has a temperate continental climate with cool summers, making it a summer resort. The main attractions include natural scenic spots such as Guiqing Mountain and Zaiyang Mountain, as well as the Majiayao cultural site, reflecting a long Neolithic history. In recent years, Dingxi has become an important regional center city in Gansu by relying on characteristic agriculture and ecotourism to promote economic development, while focusing on poverty alleviation and environmental protection.
