Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
Meigu County belongs to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, China, located in the southwest of Sichuan, in the hinterland of the Greater Liangshan Mountains. The county has a predominantly Yi population, accounting for more than 98% of the total population, and is an important birthplace and preservation site of Yi culture. Meigu County, whose name is derived from the Yi word "Mogu" meaning "beautiful place", is between 1,000 and 4,000 meters above sea level, and its terrain is dominated by mountains and plateaus.
Meigu is famous for its rich Yi traditional culture, including the Year of the Yi, the Torch Festival, the Pimo culture and the art of dress. It is an important inheritance area for the national intangible cultural heritages of Yi embroidery and Yi silver jewelry. Meigu is also famous for its natural landscape, with the Dafengding National Nature Reserve, rich in biodiversity and a popular destination for hiking and eco-tourism.
The economy is based on agriculture, with corn, potatoes and buckwheat being grown, while animal husbandry, such as cattle and sheep farming, is also well developed. In recent years, Meigu has been actively developing cultural tourism and eco-industries to help revitalize the countryside. In terms of transportation, Meigu is connected to neighboring counties and cities by highway, and is gradually improving its infrastructure to promote development.
