Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
Lianhua County is located in the western part of China's Jiangxi Province, belonging to the city of Ji'an. It is situated in the middle part of the Luoxiao Mountain Range, and is an important part of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base Area. The county covers an area of 1,062 square kilometers and has a population of about 270,000, mainly Han Chinese, with a strong Hakka culture. As a famous "red county", Lianhua was the place where the troops of the Autumn Harvest Uprising were reorganized and where the decision to lead the troops to Jinggang Mountain was made.
Lianhua County has an excellent ecological environment, with a forest coverage rate of over 70%, and natural scenic spots such as Yuhu Mountain and Hanshan Forest Park. Lotus, tea oil, rice and other agricultural products are abundant in the area, and "Lotus Blood Duck" is listed in the provincial intangible cultural heritage. In terms of transportation, the Hengchaji Railway and Quannan Expressway pass through the city, and Jinggangshan Airport is about 1.5 hours away by car.
As a former Central Soviet County and a national poverty-stricken county (to be lifted out of poverty in 2019), Lianhua is vigorously developing eco-tourism and green agriculture, and after the opening of the Changlian Expressway in 2020, it will be further integrated into the economic circle of West Jiangxi, and will gradually become an eco-cultural tourism destination in the Xiang-Gan Border Region.
