Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger. The city is located in the lower Niger River basin around the climate of the tropical desert climate, hot and dry throughout the year, the average annual precipitation is less than 300 millimeters. The economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, and the surrounding areas are rich in millet, sorghum and livestock. Diffa, as a regional trade center, undertakes the function of cross-border trade with neighboring countries, such as Nigeria, and is especially famous for the trade of livestock, agricultural products and handicrafts. The city is culturally diverse, with Hausa, Tuareg and Kanuri ethnic groups living in the area, and is unique in its crafts such as traditional leather weaving and silversmithing. Despite infrastructural challenges, Diffa remains an important economic and cultural node in the south-east of the Niger, thanks to its strategic location and rich cultural heritage.
Huoqiu County is part of Lu'an City, Anhui Province, China, located on the edge of western Anhui and the south bank of the middle reaches of the Huai River, with a total area of 3,239 square kilometers. With a resident population of about 1.19 million as of 2022, it is one of the most populous counties in Anhui. The terrain of the county is high in the south and low in the north, characterized by both hills and plains, with a warm-temperate to subtropical transition climate.
Huoqiu was known as Tate's Land in ancient times and has a history of civilization spanning thousands of years. The modern economy is based on agriculture, producing rice and wheat, and is known as the "Bread Bin on the Huai River". Huoqiu iron ore mine is an important iron ore base in East China, and the industry is dominated by mineral processing and food manufacturing. 2022 GDP will reach 34.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 5.2%.
Huoqiu is an important bearer of Huaihe River culture, with water conservancy landscapes such as the Linhuaigang Flood Control Project (one of the world's largest sluice gate hubs) and Watergate Park. Local intangible cultural heritages such as Lu Opera and Elbow Pavilion Lifting Pavilion are inherited, and Huoqiu willow weaving craft is listed in the provincial intangible heritage list. The cuisine is characterized by Huaiyang flavor, and specialties such as Huoqiu silver fish and gravy are famous.
